A transformation

LOOK AT THOSE PERFECT WALLS in the 1st guest room!!!

After two months of reattaching them to the lathe, filling countless holes with drywall, and muddying layer after layer.... I am proud to show off 150 year old original plaster walls with NO crack, NO holes, and PERFECT corners! YAHOO!... but we are far from done.....

June 2008 - A special thank you to Jen's Dad for giving up so many of his weekends to help plaster the walls! He really is the "Plaster Master"... even though he lets Jen think she is all the time.
April 2008 - Now that the drywall is in, taped and mudded - it is time to focus on the 150 year old plaster.... and boy does it need help! We have decided NOT to tear it out, but to take on the time consuming responsibility of reattaching it to the lathe then giving it 4 coats of new plaster.... there were holes like this one around all of the windows and in the corners. Oh boy! (it was reattached with the screws you can see in the photo – which to date we have over 400 in just two rooms!)

March 2008 Check out that beautiful new ceiling…. It is taped, plastered, sanded, and ready to be painted! YEA!!!
January 2008 – The drywall is up and we are ready to start taping and plastering
January 2008 – The insulation is in, and we are ready for drywall
September 2007 – The new electrical is in the wall.. and we are trying to figure out how to insulate it.
February 2007– The wall which used to help support the chimney had to be completely redone… after many years of water damage. All of the plaster, lathe, and old insulation had to be removed… messy!!!

August 2006 – Jeff tackles the windows. We are taking them original windows out, hand stripping them, repainting them and reinstalling them. Not an easy (or fast) job!

April 2006 – Taking down the floating chimney that was full of debris and dirt.
February 2006 – Down come the funky 1970’s tiles off the ceiling… which created many questions on how we would fix the cracking original plaster ceiling…

February 2006 – The first thing we did was learn how to remove wallpaper…. We had no idea there would be 8 layers, so it took a while.
January 2006 - The room when we bought the house (Don’t’ you love that wallpaper?)
