Taking down wallpaper that has been in place for 160 years is well... a pain.
First thing needed to be successful is a wallpaper steamer.
We rented our first one - and soon later were the proud owners of one.
It is messy, wet, and messy
As you take down the wallpaper layer by layer you feel like you are peeling back time
But t is still messy, wet, and messy
Once it is down you have a very clear view of the original plaster walls... which I love!
Not so in love with the fact that they have separated from the lath - I think the wallpaper was the only thing holding the walls up!
Ok ... now down comes those 1970's ceiling tiles
