Week 1 Belle Renovation Update
Our amazing contractors Jay and Adam began work on our beautiful Belle on Monday morning.... and s**t got serious.
You have to remember that when Jeff and I do work, we are learning on the job, carefully making sure we don't get hurt, and sometimes questioning what we are doing - slowing us down. And then you bring in professionals like Jay & Adam - who obviously do not have these issues - and things start happening FAST!!!!
Monday: Moving Day
Day 1: Jay and Adam moved in their 10 million tools to Belle, and began their plan of attack.
They even had time to remove the 1902 wall to the old summer kitchen. I don't know how they are staying warm... it was about 5 degrees on Monday!
Tuesday: Butlers Pantry Anyone?
This was a bathroom that was put in sometime in the 1970's and now will become our walk through butlers pantry (oh yea!) connecting the kitchen to the formal dining room.
They removed the rotten floors and framed out the walls for the pantry. They were even able to figure out how to get a pocket door in so that the kitchen could be a few inches bigger! (score)
Cool Fact:
They were able to rescue a 24" wood board
that is probably 200 years old!!!
That was a BIG tree.
Wednesday: What Floor?
The library/downstairs bathroom had a 2 inch sub floor that had been nailed in on top of the original hardwood floors. Jeff and I had NO idea if the floors were in good shape and couldn't bring ourselves to do the manual labor to remove them....
Jay and Adam had those crappy floors up in what felt like minutes and the BEAUTIFUL original 160 year old floors are in GREAT SHAPE! (yahoo)
The butlers Pantry is coming along and now has a floor (oh yea!)
Cool Fact:
When Jay and Adam were taking
up the floor they found a bunch of
newspapers from 1942!
Check these out!!!!
Thursday: Give That Girl a Bathroom!
The downstairs bathroom was framed out and I think is going to be AMAZING!!!
(look at those floors!!)
Friday: Returned to Her Original Glory
The transition between the original 1868 house an the 1902 addition has always been small and not as welcoming as it felt like it should be. Jay and Adam have fixed that in 1 day!
The pocket door is set for the Butlers Pantry and I can visualize myself walking through it to a fabulous dinner party!!!!
So in 1 week more has happened at Belle than has in years.... we are excited and cant wait to see what amazing things Jay and Adam do next week.
I see a dumpster in our future....
