Belle has 'Super Heroes'

Week 2 Belle Renovation Update

To say that things are moving quickly is an understatement. I do not think I have accomplished as much as our Super Heroes (Jay & Adam) have in the last two weeks ... ever!

In week 2, as mother earth continued to drop snow on Livingston, Jay and Adam pushed forward and kept the momentum going. Mind you I have not seen this incredible work in person yet - but in my humble opinion I would describe week 2 as a structural week.

Structure work is not sexy ... it is expensive and never seen by anyone. But it is kinda like keeping your core stomach strong - if you let that area go in the middle - you never look good or sexy!

So our super heroes started the week focusing on the master bedroom floor we THINK was put in around 1902. To paint a picture for those of you who had not seen this floor - it was slanted... really slanted, it bounced when two people walked on it, and it was only 6-1/2 feet tall ceiling downstairs.

The first thing they did was TAKE OUT THE OLD FLOOR... bye, bye
Then they began securing the original beams that were carrying the load of the second floor and roof. You can see one of these old beams here
Then they were able to put in the NEW beam (above the old beam) that will start carrying the load and give us MUCH taller ceilings down stairs (yahoo)
Bye bye old low beam .  Don't worry party people - we did NOT throw it away... it will end up being used somewhere else!
Isn't that amazing? Our super heroes transformed our dungeon family room with 6-1/2 foot ceilings to an amazing room with 8 foot ceilings in like a day!!! (rad)

Check out these AWESOME photos that Jay took.... you can see the door of the master bedroom on the left... which looks a little funny without a floor. You can see the new support beams.... no more bouncing floors for Jenny!

Even though our super heroes were spending a lot of time looking UP this week ..... they also looked down. Down at the foundation that is.

Now what we should be seeing is a brick foundation that goes across the entire back of the house... obviously we are not seeing that. SURPRISE!!! Happy times.

So.... our Super Heroes called in for backup (ie: the mason). They removed all the old bricks (which will be saved of course) and began making a plan to pour a new cement foundation to ensure it is solid for years to come!

And as the week came to a close, our Super Heroes looked up once again and decided it was time to install the NEW floor in the master bedroom.

Not only will the floor of the master bedroom no longer bounce.... the family room downstairs will have 1-1/2 feet more of height (told you they were Super Heroes)

And this my friends is a BRAND NEW floor.... oh yea!

I wonder what our Super Heroes will be up to next week???????
